MALCOLM EMILIO
Malcolm Emilio describes his art as portals because each piece is meant to be an access point that guides people to new ideas or directions in their personal journey.
Malcolm Emilio’s portals are an extension of his existence, a blend of indigenous South American and Caribbean cultural history with a throughline to Africa that come together to create what he has coined as “energetic art.”
Energetic art is “an art that comes from the indigenous thought and person that represents more than an aesthetic, craft, or hobby by carrying energetic substance, truth, history and factual evidence through form and imagery.” It is art born from intuition and introspective exploration that Malcolm-Emilio hopes will be at the center of modern architecture and art.
OKU ONUORA
Oku Onuora is widely regarded as the father of Dub Poetry. Oku Nagba Ozala (the fire in the desert) Onuora (the voice of the people), is the only dub poet. By that we mean he is the only poet who does not resist the title of dub poet.
He is credited with being the first to record dub poetry in Jamaica. (Reflection in Red, 56 Hope Rd., 1978).
His debut album Pressure Drop has been hailed by listeners and critics alike as a modern classic. One reviewer stated. "His (Oku's) words not only strike straight at the heart, they seem to burn away the flesh and expose the raw nerve."
